George Curnow is a Welsh tenor and a graduate of the Royal Academy Opera Studio, where he studied under the tutelage of Mark Wildman and Ingrid Surgenor. He gained his BMus (hons) and MPerf at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the tutelage of Marilyn Rees.

Upcoming engagements include covering the role of Kudrjaš in Janáček’s Káťa Kabanová at the Glyndebourne Festival 2025, as well as performing in the Glyndebourne Festival Chorus for Wagner's Parsifal, Handel's Saul, and Verdi's Falstaff.

 

For the Glyndebourne Festival 2024, George was a Jerwood Young Artist and covered the role of Viscount Cascada in Lehár's The Merry Widow. He also performed in the Glyndebourne Festival Chorus for Bizet's Carmen, Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Lehár's The Merry Widow, and Wagner's Tristan und Isolde. George returned to Glyndebourne for the Autumn 2024 season, performing the role of Giuseppe and cover Gastone in Verdi's La Traviata.

Previous operatic roles include George's professional debut as Agenore in Mozart's Il re pastore at the Buxton International Festival 2023. As part of Royal Academy Opera, George performed the title role in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring, Lurcanio in Handel's AriodanteDon Curzio in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and Edoardo Milfort in Rossini's La cambiale di matrimonio. 

Competition success includes second prize at the Kathleen Ferrier Competition 2023 and first prize in the Dunraven Young Welsh Singer of the Year Competition 2023.
